Oppo Unveils the Find N5: A Slimmer AI-Powered Foldable Smartphone

Oppo, a Chinese smartphone maker, has unveiled the Find N5 foldable phone. It has a sleek design and AI-enhanced features. This move is to compete with Samsung and Huawei's high-end foldables. The launch happened on Thursday in London.

Sleek Design and Display

The Find N5 is very thin and light, making it one of the slimmest foldables. It's 8.93mm thick when closed and 4.21mm when open. This is thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 6, released last year.

The Find N5 costs 2,499 Singapore dollars ($1,867.70). It has a 6.62-inch display when folded and expands to 8.12-inch when open.

Advanced Battery Technology

The Find N5 has a 5,600mAh battery, as thin as a credit card. It uses a special material to hold more power without adding bulk.

AI-Powered Features

Oppo is using AI in the Find N5. It includes:

AI Telescope Zoom: A triple-camera setup with a 30x zoom lens, powered by AI.

AI Personal Assistant: This assistant can summarize documents, generate call summaries, and translate video calls and on-screen content.

Privacy & Cloud Security

Oppo ensures some data is processed on the device, while others are stored in cloud servers. In global markets, Oppo works with Google for AI and cloud services. Oppo follows local laws and privacy regulations strictly.

Competing with Foldable Innovators

Oppo aims to challenge Samsung and Huawei in foldable innovation. Huawei recently launched the Mate XT, a trifold smartphone. Samsung teased a trifold prototype for the Galaxy S25 series, but its release is unclear.

Seamless Mac Integration with O+ Connect

Oppo introduced O+ Connect for Find N5 users to connect to Mac computers wirelessly. This allows:

Instant file transfers between the Find N5 and Mac over Wi-Fi.

Remote Mac control, mirroring and controlling the Mac screen from the Find N5 using mobile data or Wi-Fi.

The O+ Connect feature uses public macOS APIs, following Apple’s software rules.

Industry Reactions

Ben Wood, Chief Analyst at CCS Insight, praised Oppo’s engineering in foldable display technology. He noted Huawei’s Mate XT introduced a bold triple-screen concept. However, the book-like foldable design is likely to remain dominant.
