Huawei Mate XT: The World’s First Trifold Phone Goes Global, But at a High Price
Huawei has launched the Mate XT globally, the world’s first trifold smartphone. It costs €3,499 (about $3,660). It won’t support Google apps or services, like other Huawei devices.
A Unique Trifold Design with Three Display Modes
6.4-inch display when fully closed
10.2-inch tablet-sized display when fully opened
7.9-inch display when partially unfolded
Ultra-Thin Design: A New Foldable Benchmark
The Mate XT is very thin, just 3.6mm at its thinnest point. It's thinner than the Oppo Find N5 when opened. But, the Oppo has only one hinge, making it thinner when closed.
Powerful Battery and Impressive Camera Setup
The 5,600mAh battery lasts a full day, even with a big screen. It supports both wired and wireless charging. The camera has a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a periscope telephoto camera for zoom.
The Biggest Drawback: No Google Services
The Mate XT lacks Google apps and the Play Store, like other Huawei phones. It runs Huawei’s Android-based EMUI. Although HarmonyOS Next is introduced, this phone hasn’t been updated yet.
Hands-On Experience: Durable Yet Complex Folding Mechanism
The Mate XT feels sturdy and well-built. But, closing it requires folding each section differently. Its high price is a big concern for buyers.
Global Availability: Limited Markets for Now
Huawei announced the Mate XT in euros. It will launch in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico first. More markets will follow. Huawei UK and US won’t sell it.
The phone has 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Huawei also introduced new products like the FreeArc earbuds and the Band 10 fitness tracker.
Is the Huawei Mate XT Worth It?
The Mate XT has a unique design and is very thin. But, its price and lack of Google services might deter buyers.
